The designed facility will be part of the UNBROKEN rehabilitation ecosystem. The center in Bryukhovychi is set to become a next-generation rehabilitation center, establishing a national standard for such facilities. It will focus on second-level rehabilitation, helping people adapt to new conditions and return to normal life. The primary goal is to create an inclusive environment that ensures a high standard of medical care and comfort for all patients.

The project involves the comprehensive landscaping of a 1.4233-hectare site at 74 V. Ivasyuka Street in Bryukhovychi. The plot has a complex, multi-angled shape, adjacent to private residential areas and a landscape forest zone. The project is based on the winning proposal from the Belyaev Architectural Workshop in a national open architecture competition.

Plans include the reconstruction of the existing hospital with the addition of a third floor and new sections. The project aims to unite all buildings on the site into a single space that is highly functional and logistically connected. The new two 3-story annexes will house additional wards, rehabilitation halls, a dining area, and shelters for patients and staff. Instead of the main entrance from the east side, a barrier-free entrance from the north is planned, ensuring accessibility and effectively separating the flow of staff, visitors, and patients. A one-story annex with a large common hall for the rehabilitation center and polyclinic department with a reception area is also planned. Additionally, a pool will be installed in a one-story annex, providing a full cycle of rehabilitation services, including hydrotherapy for patients.

Rehabilitation activities in nature can be conducted for the center’s patients to take advantage of the surrounding area. This includes landscaping with recreational and sports zones, the enhancement of existing greenery, the installation of outdoor lighting, and the creation of walking paths with varying inclines and surfaces. The landscaping includes lighting, greenery, the installation of landscaping elements, and ensuring barrier-free access based on universal design principles.

Special attention is also given to the hospital’s technological advancement and modernization. This includes the installation of a drainage filtration field using drainage blocks, as well as the collection of rainwater in an artificial reservoir to reduce the load on the stormwater drainage system.

Partial demolition of existing structures and the construction of new ones are planned. The project aims to preserve as many valuable and characteristic elements of the existing buildings as possible, such as ceramic tile roofing, the structure, material, and color of the external walls after thermal modernization of the enclosing structures, and the restoration of the original window divisions and balcony railings.

The architecture of the new annexes differs from the existing buildings to highlight the historical structures while presenting the new volume without drawing attention away from the original elements, such as the varied window heights, authentic materials, and tile roofs, under which a “technical floor” has been converted into a full-fledged third floor.

The modern medical center has a thoughtfully designed layout that ensures comfort and safety for both patients and staff.

The basement includes shelters, utility rooms, and staff rest areas, as well as technical and storage facilities. The first floor features a spacious entrance hall with a waiting area, reception, diagnostic and X-ray departments, and administrative offices. The rehabilitation department has rooms for physical therapy, a pool with support facilities, and other essential spaces.

The second floor is dedicated to rehabilitation, housing 50 beds, medical staff rooms, restrooms, elevators, dining areas, and additional support spaces.

On the third floor, there are 44 patient beds and a rehabilitation unit, with rooms for medical staff, restrooms, elevators, dining spaces, support rooms, a conference hall, and a terrace for patient relaxation.

The total bed capacity after reconstruction will be 105, mostly in double rooms. These rooms are designed to allow easy movement, including wheelchair access. They are equipped with functional beds, bedside tables, wardrobes, desks, comfortable chairs, and coffee tables. Each room has night lighting, bedside panels with sockets and USB ports, call buttons for medical staff, and reading lights. Curtains provide privacy, while tulle and curtains on the windows create a cozy atmosphere. Every room has a bathroom with a barrier-free shower, toilet, sink, and additional accessories for convenient use.

The project includes three passenger elevators, including those adapted for transporting bedridden patients, and two lifts for clean and dirty laundry.

New engineering systems will be installed, including water supply, sewage, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, fire protection and alarm systems, low-voltage networks, patient monitoring and nurse call systems, and medical gas supply systems.

The main principles of interior design for a modern medical center are simplicity, naturalness, and style expression. The interiors are designed considering architectural, planning, and technological solutions, creating a harmonious and cozy atmosphere for both patients and staff.

The use of natural materials and pastel colors are key elements of the interiors. These choices create a sense of complete immersion in a natural environment, which aligns with the center’s location in its existing area. This approach fosters a comfortable, calm, and balanced atmosphere that does not distract patients from their rehabilitation processes, but rather focuses their attention on the important aspect—the process of recovery and returning to their usual lifestyle.

All common areas, including corridors, lobbies, and rest zones, are finished using natural textures and materials. This creates a neutral environment that promotes a calm and comfortable recovery process for patients. The use of natural materials in these common areas emphasizes the overall concept of naturalness and simplicity that permeates the entire center.

An interesting solution is the division of patient rooms by color scheme depending on their location within the existing building or in new extensions. This approach takes into account the layout structure, room sizes, furniture placement, window sizes, and the presence of balcony access. Rooms in the existing building are decorated in pastel ochre tones, highlighting the authenticity and naturalness of each building element. New rooms feature green shades, symbolizing a connection with the surrounding environment.

Together with our partners LUMINAL, we developed a concept for exterior lighting, which includes lighting for the facades, surrounding areas, roads, pedestrian paths, and sports and recreation zones. The design also features decorative-functional lighting for individual landscaping elements and spot lighting for greenery, considering all existing and future plants, trees, and other vegetation.

The principles of lighting for landscaping are based on creating atmospheric light and shadow effects on plants and accentuating individual landscaping features. The facade lighting also takes into account the interior lighting of spaces and their functions to avoid excessive light spill from the facade into the interiors. Bright interior lighting and overly illuminated facades contribute to light pollution, which can harm the surrounding flora and fauna while creating an uncomfortable public space.

The project includes the installation of hidden light sources to achieve a visible light gradient on the facade surfaces. This approach creates environmentally friendly lighting that is pleasant for both people and the surrounding environment.
